Graves Chapel, 1905

Graves Chapel is set along Kinsey Run in Graves Mill, Virginia, 50 yards above the point where the creek joins the Rapidan River and about a mile below the Graves Mill trailhead entrance to Shenandoah National Park. On October 14, 1886, the Shiloh Baptist Association opened Graves Chapel with 30 charter members housed within the sanctuary. The exact date of construction is unknown. Within the sanctuary, however, is a sign stating, "Graves Chapel Built 1885."

Regular services resumed in the chapel, now an Episcopal mission church, in July 2008. Susan H. Bagby, a licensed lay preacher in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, leads evening prayer services here at 4 pm on the second Sunday and the last Sunday of every month.

The chapel also regularly hosts meetings, lectures,  dances,  dinners,  movie nights, art workshops, weddings, and other events. With the support of local residents and friends of the chapel from all over, we are honored to continue the chapel's legacy as a vital part of the Graves Mill community and beyond.
